The general scarcity in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in one sense quite puzzling, in one way or another.
In recent years, the country was a spot where numerous South Africans would go to to flee from the astonishingly restricting rules on casino gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. So, you would expect a aura of a developing business to oblige that tourist sector.
Still, perhaps it isn’t particularly a surprise. The country is undeniably the poorest on the planet, having been through a frightening civil war (followed by damaging floods) from which it is still, very slowly, bouncing back. This may make a country much less of a vacation focal point, though there is at the moment a thriving setting along a few of the region’s attractive beaches.
It is added to that accurate that regionally somewhat, casinos in Mozambique have had to partake with casinos in the recently liberalized South Africa, including the prominent Sun City founded by the Kerzner family management.
Here is a list of Casinos in Mozambique:
Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel
There are seventy eight slot machines and video poker games, five tables of American roulette, four blackjack tables, in addition 1 poker table.
Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino
There are 40 slot machines, American roulette, and two tables for poker and also punto banco.
It is thought that over time the total tourism sector in Mozambique will progress greatly. While the local languages are, clearly, African, there is added to that the remnant of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the current and accelerating awakening of English, both from South Africa and as part of the worldly phenomenon. The country is considerably cheap (evidently, as it is very poor) and as above, has some of the most breathtaking beaches worldwide, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the types of things that make tourism representatives drool, and as the country elevates out of its existent slump, it’s likely that not only will tourism boost, but that the list of Mozambique’s casinos will grow longer for sure.
While the country is not likely to ever replenish its disposition as a focal point for partying South Africans, as there are now other picks closer to home for them to indulge in, the expansion of a long distance tourism sector is being outlined. This would be to accommodate Europeans looking forward to winter sun, as a break from the gloominess of the Northern Hemisphere winter. And, of course, the finest prawns (shrimp) around the world derive from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
