There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den gambling is illegal. Eight casinos are based in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is true of many borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that features a number of amenities accompanying the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
